"zero waste to landfill" in the Eurovision

The municipality of Tel aviv Jaffa and the Dan city association of towns have come up with a plan to reduce the environmental impact of such a large scale event. The plan is called "zero waste to landfill" in the Eurovision.

The waste management of the event will be based on separating the waste into 3 streams.

There will be 3 types of bins placed In the Eurovosion compounds:

Orange bins – for packaging – to be sent by the recycling corporation Tamir to a sorting plant and then to be recycled.

Brown bins – for organic waste-to be sent to Arrow Ecology for the production of Biogas for electricity.

Green bins - for dry garbage- to be sent to the RDF plant in the Hiriya recycling park for sorting and the making of RDF – a fuel for the cement industry.

The amounts of waste saved from landfill will be measured and reported regularly.

The Tel Aviv Municipality is addressing other environmental issues in order to reduce the environmental impact of the Eurovision:

Reduction-Reducing the amount of single use plastic to a minimum in the Eurovision Village

Reducing Food Waste -leftovers will be collected by the "Leket Israel" organization and will be donated.

During the event the Dan city Association conducted thourgh the company AVIV AMCG a waste survey to check the quality and efficiency of waste separation in major events as in the chosen model.

The Results and conclusions will be published by the end of the year

It is the intention of The Dan city association to implement the same waste management standards in future large scale events in order to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
