THE NEW CONSTRACTION & DEMOLITION PLANT IS A "GAME CHANGER" IN TEL-AVIV DISCRIT

The Tel-Aviv Metropolis District continues to grow and develop rapidly. Urban renewal momentum is good news for the residents of Israel, but poses a major environmental challenge:Dealing with increasing amounts of construction and demolition waste.

The lack of available solutions causes the dumping of construction waste in open areas and creates severe environmental hazards.

Dan Region Association of Towns, which serves most of the municipalities in the Tel-Aviv metropolis, is launching a new plant in the Hiriya Recycling Park, in cooperation with the infrastructure company Redimix-Shtang Recycle Israel with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection. The plant is a modern facility for sorting and recycling construction and demolition waste.

The plant receives up to 2,000 tons of construction waste every day. Shredding, screening, sorting, and washing are carried out in the plant, to produce construction materials of the highest quality, which will be used as raw materials for the construction industry and save mining and quarrying of these materials from nature.

The handled materials are: construction materials, wood, metals, cardboard, and plastic products.

During waste reception phase, vehicles are weighed and documented. Before leaving, the vehicles are washed to prevent pollution on the roads.

The waste is unloaded inside a covered structure and begins the sorting process in the "dry line". Mixed waste is sorted into construction waste and recyclable materials, and these are finally sent to further facilities for recycling. Construction waste such as concrete, bricks, and sand, go through shredding and screening processes, at the end of which an aggregate product is obtained that can be used as a substrate of various types for the development of infrastructures like roads, paths, and parks. The "dry line" process is fully carried out in a closed structure, which covereded with acustic panels to prevent noise, and equipped with systems for lowering dust, and preventing odor hazards.

To produce high-quality products, the aggregate materials are loaded into the "wet line" where intensive washing is carried out in a closed water management system that collects the water, filters it, and prepares it for further use. The washing process allows the upgrading of the materials to a level similar to that of quarry materials. The purification treatment prevents waste of precious water resources.

Three types of fine products come out of the wet line: washed sand, Sesame, and clay.

These products are similar in quality to raw materials originating from mineral mining, so it is clear why the new facility is called "the urban quarry of the Tel-Aviv district".

These products are transferred to various plants in the construction industry. For example, plant for "readymix concrete" production.

The plant for construction and demolition waste is changing the reality in Tel-Aviv metropolis, and fulfills two necessary conditions for the implementation of circular economy: first - providing solutions for construction waste generated within the municipalities, and second -  serving as a source of raw materials for their growing demand for urban development.
