Workshops and Activities for All Ages

General fixing

A series of 15 workshops during the evening dealing with different aspects of "fixing". What is fixing? What is its importance to us and the environment? How can we fix the way we treat waste? How can we fix our ways and consumption habits? We will discuss different aspects of fixing: economic, social, and ecological. We will learn basic repair skills in different areas: carpentry, painting, electricity, textiles, and more. The course will be held by professionals and the Center's staff, and at the close each participant will choose a broken object or device to fix. The course will begin January 2010.

A series of 5 classes for making sock puppets and marionettes from leftover fabrics. The course instructor is the artist and textile designer Netta Amir. We all have old socks in our drawers, those that have been forgotten or have lost their partner. In each sock lies the potential to receive new life as a puppet! Using sewing and cutting techniques, we will learn how to create a body, feet, hands, and face for the puppet, and to transform the sock into a character with its own personality and expressions. In the last two classes, we will learn how to make string puppets using unique waste fabric, sculpture, and manual sewing techniques. The meetings will take place 5pm – 7.30pm on: 21st December 2009, 28th December 2009, 4th January 2010, 11th January 2010, and 18th January 2010.
